New to padel?
The basics, before your first session
Padel is played in doubles on an enclosed court – smaller than a tennis court, with glass and mesh walls that come into play once the ball's bounced.
Scoring runs the same as tennis: 15, 30, 40, game. The serve is underarm and hit diagonally, so there's no big serve advantage to overcome – which is a big part of why beginners can rally with more experienced players from day one.
Underarm serve – no big serve to counter, so newcomers aren't outgunned early on.
Walls are in play – the enclosed court means longer rallies and fewer mishit balls to retrieve!
Scored like tennis – if you've ever kept score on a tennis court, you already know how a padel game works.
