Our story
Built in Axminster, for Axminster
Four hi-spec indoor courts at Millwey Rise, run by Ryan and Chloe, a local couple who wanted Axminster to have a proper home for padel.
It started as an idea between the two of them which turned into planning, paperwork and hard graft before a single ball was hit. They were clear from the start about what it had to be: easy to get to, simple to book, and just as welcoming to someone picking up a racket for the first time as it is to players who've been on court for years. Every class, social and league on the timetable is run with that in mind.
When you're on court you'll usually find one of them there too, running the session or waiting to lock up.

Words from the founder
Giving back to the community
Ryan, Founder of The Padel Unit:
“
“Axminster is my home – the place where I grew up, went to school, and built my career – and The Padel Unit is my way of giving something back to the community I love.
I wanted our town to have its own vibrant padel club where everyone can play, socialise, and feel welcome – run by a local team that’s here for the long haul.”

Meet the Team
The faces behind The Padel Unit

Ryan
Founder
My background is in running local businesses here in Axminster, but my real passion has always been sport.
I first picked up a padel racket in 2024 and was instantly hooked. It’s easy to learn, great fun and, most importantly, brings people together. For me, combining sport with socialising is brilliant for both our physical and mental health and that’s exactly what I love about padel.
Thanks for “swinging” by and I look forward to seeing you at The Padel Unit!

Fraser
Host & Coach
I’m a host at The Padel Unit, as well as a coach, delivering sessions for players of all abilities, alongside social sessions and events. My background is in competitive sport, having represented GB in handball and coached throughout university.
I’m also qualified in sports massage, giving me a strong interest in movement, performance and helping people get the most from their game. I enjoy padel for its competitive and social nature, with plenty of opportunity for improvement.

Andrew
Host & Sports Therapist
I'm a qualified Sports Therapist and one of the hosts at The Padel Unit. Alongside creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, I offer sports massage and sports therapy services, drawing on my knowledge of injury assessment, rehabilitation and corrective exercise. I have experience across elite and high-level sport, including football with Luton Town, rugby and international hockey.
As an active padel player, I understand the physical demands of the sport and how to support recovery and performance. My favourite thing about padel is the tactical side, reading opponents, constructing points, using the walls and finding different ways to win.
